I wavered between giving this story and 2 or 3 stars so 2.5 stars it is.Let's start with the bad and get that over with. I don't like first-person because so few authors can actually pull it off (Ilona Andrews and Roxie Rivera are two exceptions). With first person, they're telling you the story so it's so much harder to live it, if that makes any sense. And this book was no different. It was all tell and no show so the whole time I was very aware that I was reading someone's thoughts and I just couldn't get into the actual story. My second problem with first person is that it is all in the character's head and if the author isn't careful there is no outside interaction or description. Incandescent fell into this trap too: the characters were all wound up inside their heads with inner monologues that went on seemingly forever sometimes and very little outside conversation. Because of this the characters and romance felt flat and the plot plodded along most of the time. There were a few grammatical errors and sometimes the sentences felt a little disjointed, but I can live with that. So onto the characters: Kandace our h did not come across as feisty, to me she was abrasive and bratty and Nix he took too much of Kandace's sh**.
Now, onto the good. So many times I came close to just giving up and just when I was about close it there would be a shining moment in the story and it kept me vested in it. There is talent here but it needs to be polished up a bit. I also like that the author gave the reader a dirty-talking, alpha biker who doesn't hit (spankings are A-OK lol) or cheat on or treat the h like crap. Badass does not equal douchebag, Authors of the World. So thank you for that. I also liked the sex scenes, I thought they were hot, but then they started to fizzle. The author decided to fade parts of the sex scenes out near the end of the story. What was that about?
So the bad won out over the good unfortunately. It's hard to find a good story with badass alpha males who aren't also major d**ks. If any readers out there have any suggestions bring'em on.

Incandescent A Knights Rebels MC Book 1 edition by River Savage Becky Johnson Romance eBooks Reviews
This book was free and my first read of River Savage's work. Savage has written a book that needed stronger editing. Her character's inner monolog was abundant and slowed the pace of the story. Savage needed to write more dialogue between the main characters and focus the reader's attention towards the tension between the hero/heroine. The dialogue she did include felt lukewarm. For instance, the heroine, Kadence, is flirting with Pheonix in his bar, tells him to stop touching her, then she knees him in the balls, only to turn around and sleep with him. The hero, Pheonix, was not believeable as a president of an outlaw biker club. Savage should have written a few scenes where Pheonix acted out his bad boy image to show readers this character had an aura of danger. Reading this book, I had more than one 'Come on, get real' moments. When I read a well-written romance, I want fall in love with the romance story between the main characters. I want to cheer for them to be together. I want to experience the uncertainty of not knowing will they survive the force keeping them apart, will the heroine/hero make it, what is pulling them apart, and finally the payoff of a happily ever after. Savage delivered the ending, but missed developing the middle plot. I'm going to continue reading the series to see how the larger story develops.
This was a promising start from what feels like a new author. The characters need to get out of their heads! This was the most frustrating part of the book for me, I found myself skimming just to get to the dialog. Also there were many instances where the author told us the story instead of letting us learn or experience things at the same time as the characters. For example, on their first date, they go out to his back deck... next thing we know they are heading inside after he told her all about his club. He was so glad she was so accepting. What did you specifically tell her? What was discussed? How much does she know? Maybe if he didnt have 4 pages of internal monolog about his club in the chapter before, we could have experienced their conversation first hand. Another example is the heroine`s first club party. The brothers warn her that it gets crazy and she better be prepared, she says she's up for anything. Next thing we know... she's waking up with a hangover from an amazing night! What the heck happened at the party? They semi-recap it at the bar the next day but it's not the same as experiencing the feelings/emotions of the characters. I think that would have been a great time to see the heroine really come into her ownership of her role in the club. It was a missed opportunity.
I may read more from this author in the future, but need more character development along the way.
